“It’s the only thing keeping us sane!”
The news that playgrounds are to be kept open during this, our third full lockdown, has been met with huge relief. It appears the Government agrees with us and others that the risks posed to children of not playing outdoors far outweigh those posed by the virus. But the relief I felt is as nothing compared to parents and children up and down the country, some of whom voiced their feelings on a recent thread on Mumsnet: Will Playgrounds Shut Again?- I don’t think I can cope if they are [closed]. We don’t even have a garden.
- We have literally gone to a playground every day … It's the only thing keeping us sane!!
- I hope they stay open. Sometimes you need something like the playground to help get through the awfulness. My daughter got really down last time. She needs some physical release.
- They’re an absolute godsend for some people with no gardens and cramped living conditions.
- I have an 8-week-old, a tantrum loving 2-year-old and no support bubble available. The playgrounds are all I have left.
- The playgrounds need to remain open for families' sanity … the benefits far outweigh the hazards.
- You can't keep little kids locked up indoors and those of us with no gardens are pretty stuffed.
- Very relieved to read that they'd stay open in the guidance. It will be our main source of entertainment for [our] toddler.
