FSPA Managing Director Jane Montgomery attended a Stakeholder Policy Briefing Event with the Department of International Trade yesterday at Central Hall Westminster, London.

Jane says: “The event covered a short update on the forthcoming legislative bills – the Customs Bill, International Sanctions Bill and the Trade Bill. The timetable for these are still to be determined, but a White Paper could be out soon.

“Also covered was the latest on Free Trade Agreements and the Transitional Adoption of existing EU FTAs which, the Government appreciated, they could not get wrong. A discussion also took place on plans for trade with developing countries.

“The DiT, along with other Government partners, emphasised that they wanted to continue to talk with business.

“Following the event, two breakout sessions were offered covering US-UK Market Access Barrier, Overview of the WTO, Export Controls and On-Going EU Business.”

Next week Jane has a scheduled telephone call with Robi Roy-Chowdhri from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy to discuss the issues of Sports and Play Associations and to schedule further meetings between our industry and their analysts.

On 28 July, the FSPA has a seat at the Joint Customs Consultative Committee meeting, an HMRC forum established in 1969 to exchange views on and discuss proposed changes to customs procedures relating to the entry and clearance of goods.  This committee is the main forum for the Department to consult trade on imports and exports.

“If FSPA members have any questions on Brexit please don’t hesitate to contact me,” adds Jane. “I am working closely with UK Government and with the Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) who are concentrating their efforts on lobbying the EU.”
